RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for syndicating webpage contents. The aim of RSS technology is to disseminate website information and contents.

Through readers' use of feeds (free programs or sites that allow web sources to be read), the user can subscribe to the channels of his or her interest, and thereby obtain information for whatever sites he or she wishes. In this way you do not have to open the browser and visit the different websites.

There are three types of RSS add-ons:

• Desktop add-ons: Programs that are installed in the user's computer.
• Online add-ons: To use them, all you have to do is sign up for the add-on website.
• Add-ons as plug-ins: Some browsers and electronic mail managers (Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Thunderbird, etc.) offer this service as an additional function for the user.

Once you have the add-on, all you have to do is choose the RSS files you wish; that is, select the contents about which you would like to be informed).
