Befesa Salt Slags site, based in Whitchurch, Shropshire (UK), is located within a rural community, with several private housing developments in close proximity to the site.
To facilitate good communication, improve the understanding of how the plant works and to demonstrate the standards it operates to, the company invited its neighbours and other stakeholders to visit the plant and meet the site management team in October 2011. This visit helped to give to neighbours and other stakeholders confidence in the abilities of Befesa Salt Slags and also a point of contact with the sites management team.
Following the initial contact with neighbours and stakeholders, further meetings were arranged on site, where a presentation was given to the visitants by the managing director and the Q.S.E manager.
In November the company arranged a follow up meeting with its local stakeholders and the rest sites management team to introduce each of the parties to each other after which a site tour was arranged.
Following the success of this initiative and to promote a positive and proactive relationship with local stakeholders, further visits have been arranged with a view to conducting these on a regular basis to ensure that neighbours and stakeholders are kept informed of the future developments and improvements at the site.
