Alfredo Velasco, Corporate Strategy and Development Manager of Befesa Gestión de Residuos Industriales who has more than 15 years' experience in the waste management sector, is the new Chairman of ASEGRE.
The main challenges and lines of action for the new ASEGRE Chairman will be supporting companies in the sector faced with the difficult current crisis, and collaboration with public administrations in applying new legislation. Alfredo Velasco will also develop a plan to raise awareness of this association as a reference for hazardous waste matters, especially for issues relating to land decontamination.
ASEGRE, which was created in 1992 as a national association to represents hazardous waste management companies, seeks to defend the common and legitimate interests of the sector. Its member companies, which represent more than 70% of the treatment capacity in Spain, are all authorised to carry out their activities in their respective autonomous regions, as well as having certified environmental or quality management systems at their facilities based on one of the internationally recognised standards.
The activities of ASEGRE members include the treatment of all types of hazardous waste as well as land decontamination work. The main aim of managing these wastes is to make business activities compatible with the environment, preserving natural resources so that materials and substances can be recovered and returned to the production cycle, reducing resource use and greenhouse gas emissions. ASEGRE is a member of FEAD, the European Federation for Waste Management and Environmental Services.
